Simon Peter was a fisherman. A regular, non outstanding fisherman who was alive 2000 years ago. One day when Jesus was teaching people the Word of God, they started crowding around Him. It makes sense that so many people wanted to hear what this man was saying. He was so incredibly wise. But since He was so crowded, He jumped in Simon's boat, put it a little off shore and taught the crowds from there. After He was finished He told Peter to let his boat go deeper in the water so they could put the nets over and catch some fish. Simon responded "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."
Because you say so.
Simon had probably been fishing for quite a while by this point. He knew the waters. He had been up all night, desperately working to catch fish. After all, this was probably his only way of making money. He knew that there was nothing there to catch, but because Jesus said so- even though there was no hope of catching any fish that day- he did it.
May that be our response. Jesus is heavenly and holy. He is far beyond our understanding. Sometimes He's going to call us to do things that don't make sense. Sometimes He's going to call you to cast your net over the side of the boat. I don't know what you're fishing for, whether it be money or hope. A boy or inspiration. But as followers of Jesus, we're called to listen to Him. To obey Him. And when He calls you to do something, no matter how out of the ordinary it is, may you do it-
Because He, the creator, the lover of your soul, the God of the universe, the great I am- said so.
Because you say so.
