The Holy Spirit-
Something often undermined and forgotten. How can we ever underestimate It's importance? I mean Jesus actually said it would be better for Him to leave so that The Spirit could come. J-E-S-U-S, the Son of God said that this thing was more important than Him staying on earth... He said it would live with us, go with us... Give us the ability to do even greater things than He had. How incredible! How humbling. Yet even by what Jesus said, we often live like The Spirit isn't important. Those who claim to be "Christian" usually walk around like those who claim they don't even believe in a God at all. To me, there is something majorly wrong with that picture. Majorly wrong.
In Romans 8 it says that "the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead" (11) is in us- if we give our lives to God. Now I don't know about you, but if we have that kind of spirit INSIDE us, then I do not think as should be walking around like everyone else. God gave us His Spirit as a gift. He knew it was hard for us to follow Him alone. So for those who wanted to give their lives to Him, to follow Him, He sent someone to follow Him with them.
As a Christian, there have been so many times in my life were I cried out, desperately wanting Jesus here with me. In front of me. Someone to talk to. To ask questions to... Countless times I have just wanted Jesus here, holding my hand. And having Him here? That would be great. Oh, it would be so, so good. But a long time ago, He made a really great promise to anyone who would ever believe in Him and put their trust in Him. He promised us that He would send a comforter, a lover, a stronghold- someone who would pray for us when we didn't have words... Someone who would never, for a moment, leave our side. He would send us His Spirit. Instead of having Jesus beside us, we would have Him inside us. Instead of getting to hold His hand, He'd be right there, holding our hearts.
Could you imagine that? Could you picture what that would look like? If your heart and soul was being empowered by love and joy and peace itself? If the King of the universe, the One who created EVERYTHING, was your best friend? It would be quite the person to meet, wouldn't it? Someone who literally has Jesus living inside them. That kind of person should stand out. So Christians- why don't you? If you've got this much goodness in you, people should notice. You shouldn't even be able to contain yourself. You should be reaching out to the poor, the powerless, the voiceless. You should be touching the orphans and widows. You should be changing this world.
Jesus said that people should know that we belong to Him by the way we love. So that's exactly the kind of life we should be living- one overflowing and bursting with love.
